Fashion Trivia:

1. Street-wear fashion

Street fashion is a term used widely to display the current fashion trends worn by the youth of a time and location. It varies extensively from city to era to country to social cultures. It is not the fashion developed in a studio but one that is emerged from the grassroots. Street fashion can be represented by mass accepted fashion trends or even by different fashion beliefs of youth subcultures. Some of the most famous youth subcultures that have been associated with street fashion have been:

– Biker: Lots of leather usage, studs, motorcycle jacket & chains, leather gloves, helmets and tattoos.

Biker fashion

– Bohemian : Boho fashion takes inspiration from gypsie or hippie influences. The popular fashion elements include : floaty skirts, lots of floral & other pattern mix, furry gilets, embroidered tunics, cropped jackets, large faux-coin belts, sheepskin boots and cowboy boots, baggy cardigans and hobo bags.

Goth –  Dark & black dominant clothing, make-up and accessories; the ensemble accessorized with religious, magical or macabre jewellery; fishnet stockings, black leather thigh boots, [and] witchy eye make-up

Gothic fashion

Punk – A huge fashion movement that influenced other fashion subcultures like glam rockskinheadsrude boysgreasers, and mods. Punk elements include : leather, denim, spikes, chains, combat boots, bondage pants (often plaid), torn clothing, batches ect. Hair is typically dyed in bright, unnatural colours such as red, blue, green, pink or orange and arranged into a mohawk or liberty spikes. The most common punk fashion styles are:

Hip-Hop: Initiated by the African-American youth and popularized by rappers. Common elements include brightly colored name-brand tracksuitssheepskin and leather bomber jackets, Clarks shoes, British Walkers and sneakers. Popular accessories included large eyeglasses, Kangol bucket hats, nameplates, name belts, multiple rings and lots of heavy gold jewelry.

2. Evening wear:

Evening-wear is often also referred to as Formal wear, where the female dresses like a ‘Lady’, and the male dresses like a ‘Gentleman’. In the western parts of the world, the most common evening-wear for women is gowns (in some cases cocktail dresses are accepted) and for the man is a tuxedo (or a black tie suit). Although whereas in India, even a suitable Indian wear is also considered Formal/evening wear.

General styles of evening gowns are:

Sheath

A sheath style evening gown, like the usual sheath dress, is designed to fit the body tightly. It is generally unbelted, and has a straight drape. It can have shoulder straps or be strapless.

Sheath dress

Mermaid

Mermaid, as the name suggests, means that the evening gown is shaped like a mermaid. It is form-fitting at the bodice, and the skirt is designed to resemble a mermaid’s tail in silhouette.

Mermaid dress

A-line

The A-line silhouette is somewhat bell-shaped, it is close-fitting at the top and widens gradually at the bottom, without gathers or pleats. This makes the evening gown simple but elegant.

A-line dress

Trumpet

If the evening gown is trumpet shaped, it is tight-fitting until it reaches the knees, where it flares.

Empire

The Empire silhouette involves the waistline coming up to just below the bust, from which the skirt hangs straight and loose, in a simple breezy style.

Dropped Waist

The waistline of the evening gown is dropped below the actual waistline. The skirt can be fitted or flared.

Princesse

A princesse style evening gown is also tight, cut in single pieces, such as gores, and hanging in an unbroken line from shoulder to flared hem.

3. Club wear:

Club wear clothes constitute of mostly shiny, provocative, sensual and happening fashion garments since they are worn to night clubs and pubs, for catching the attention in the dark and dazzling night lights.  Club wear is also a kind of non-casual kind of clothing, where mostly slippers, plain colored T-shirts, and athletic wear are not well accepted. Few elements/garments seen most commonly in club/party wear:

Shimmery shifts & skirts

Lace, leather and satin tops

Rompers & jumpsuits

Bikini sets

Flashy creative ensembles

Velvet, Silk & Latex material jackets

Loud prints, crystal & shiny embellishments, lingerie inspired trimmings

Fishnets & patterned stockings

High heeled bold color shoes

4. Date-wear:

There is no fixed term as such like ‘date wear’, but I would like to mention it as romantic garments that may suit best for a romantic-love date. Edging a little away from casuals, for women, date wear can be sweet, sensuously feminine and constructed to make one look attractive. So a little skin revelation that create the mystery of what lies ahead, can be a fun and naughty way to dress up for a love-date.

5. Day Wear:

As the name suggests Day Wear is something that is suitable to be worn in the day time. In my words day wear would be any piece of clothing that is a comfortable to wear and something that takes you through the day chores, without you worrying much about the garment. Day wear cannot be very blingy or glitzy, since that is something that you wear at night. It is usually a soothing and subtle sort of dressing which is neither too loud nor too flashy.
